Having been with The Outward Bound Trust for 24 years, one of my abiding memories is being on a hill in the Lake District, with a disillusioned scaffolder on a classic course in appalling weather. He was ready to finish his course there and then. He had already thrown down his rucksack. With persuasion he stuck out the course and finished as the leader during the final expedition.
